HUNTING INFORMATION

  • Game like Blesbuck, Blue Wildebeest, Duiker, Eland, Giraffe, Impala, Kudu, Nyala, Oryx, Red Hartebeest, Springbuck, Warthog, Zebra etcetera, roam freely on these 2200 hectares of varied vegetation.

  • Morakane Safari Lodge caters for rifle, handgun, bow and black powder enthusiasts.

  • Normally animals are located using the hunting vehicle, and then are hunted by the “walk and stalk” method.

  • Our hunting vehicles are fully equipped with hunting frames for those who are not able to “walk and stalk”, although “walk and stalk” are preferable.

  • Bow hunting is done from blinds, but we also cater for “walk and stalk”. All blinds are very spacious and well placed.

  • Factors such as weather, wind, luck and skill of the individual hunter will always influence the result, and therefore it is advisable to be in a reasonable physical condition, and to have regularly had done some practise shooting.

  • Highly experienced and qualified professional hunters are contracted, when and if necessary.

  • Should you be unable to bring a rifle or ammunition with you, these will be available for hire. However please make arrangements prior to your arrival.

  • All overseas guest need to declare their rifle at the airport, thus bring your firearm licence with you. Temporary permits are issued at your port of entry into South Africa. The outfitter will assist you with the importation of your rifle in regards to all legal aspects  and documentation necessary. The outfitter will also lend assistance in regards to the export of your trophy animal, etc.

HUNTING RULES

  • No hunting will be allowed if the indemnity forms are not completed and signed.

  • No hunting on Sundays.

  • Day hunters can book in advance, and are welcome between 7h00 & 18h00 only.

  • We hunt in 2 sessions per day. 

  • Minimum calibre for hunting:  smaller species – 243, bigger species – 270.

  • All rifles must pass the firing range test, before hunting will be allowed.

  • No hunting (except bow hunters) will be allowed within a radius of 300m from any waterhole.

  • No hunting from, or within 200m of any vehicle.

  • No hunting within 500m from any building.

  • No hunting allowed if not accompanied by the outfitter, or an appointed representative.

  • No hunting between ½ hour after sunset and ½ hour before sunrise.

  • No hunting with a spotlight.

  • The hunter, or his appointed representative, is responsible to identify the animal’s specie and gender, and also the size of the (trophy) animal, he/she wishes to shoot, and may not blame anyone else if the wrong animal was shot.

  • A maximum of 3 consecutive miss-shots will be allowed per hunter. After that the hunter will check his rifle at the firing range, and will only continue hunting if the owner/management is convinced that the rifle is correctly sighted in, and the hunter is able to handle the rifle.

  • Game wounded in any way will be paid in full. The owner/management may, if found necessary to do so, dispatch of a wounded animal, which will still be paid in full by the hunter.  The behaviour of the animal after the shot will be a good indication whether it was wounded or not, even if no blood, or the carcass was not found. The discretion of the owner/management will apply.

  • If an animal is wounded in any way, the hunter will do everything in his power to find the wounded animal, before hunting anything else. However, no more than 2 hunting sessions will be set aside for this purpose.

  • Cash bar available – No alcohol may be brought onto the premises, except when self-catering units are booked. 

  • No drinking of alcohol during the hunt will be allowed.

  • No hunting will be allowed if the hunter is in any way under the influence of alcohol, even from the night before. The discretion of the owner/management will apply.

  • No driving around on the farm in any private vehicle is allowed, at any time of the night or day. Only Morakane staff are permitted to drive any vehicle that belongs to the Lodge.

  • Any game hunted elsewhere, or game left at our cold room, after your departure, will be charged at and additional cost per day (or thereof), regardless of quantity of carcasses. You will only be permitted to remove carcasses once this fee is paid in cash.

  • Any tips that you wish to give to any staff members, must be handed to the owner/management, who will then fairly divide it between all who helped to make your stay a memorable occasion. Any tips that you wish to give to the professional hunter or management should be handed to that person personally.
